“Shakira’s Take on Happiness: Examining Its Universality & Luxury Status”

During her interview with Billboard on Thursday, Shakira candidly discussed her life following her separation from soccer player Gerard Piqué.

In an open and honest conversation, the performer shared the challenges of balancing her music career with being a single mother to two children. Despite experiencing a resurgence in popularity for her music, the 46-year-old struggled to answer when asked if she was content with her life. To her, it’s not a simple yes or no question, but rather a complex issue. Shakira believes that happiness is not something that everyone can attain; it’s only available to a select few. Unfortunately, at this moment in time, she doesn’t feel like she’s part of that exclusive group.

Just a few weeks ago, Shakira was awarded the Video Vanguard Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, which also made her the first South American artist to achieve this recognition, according to E Online. In addition, she has been nominated for several categories in the upcoming 2023 Latin Grammy Awards, as reported by the same source. Despite her achievements in the music industry and breaking several Guinness World Records, Shakira admits that nothing can make up for the agony of tearing a family apart. She acknowledges that her emotions are often reflected in her music, but even that cannot compensate for the pain caused by destroying a family unit.

Shakira shared with Billboard that while her children serve as her main source of motivation, her ultimate dream was to grow old with her family intact. Despite her success in the music industry, collecting platinum records and Grammys, Shakira’s greatest wish was to overcome obstacles and share a life with her partner and children. She acknowledges that this dream may not come to fruition now.

Despite being transparent about the impact of the previous year on her mental state, the vocalist has faith in the existence of positive outcomes that she can lean on.

According to Shakira, her music has evolved in new ways and she believes that’s how life balances out. When something is taken away, something else is gained. She compares it to mathematics and jokes that she will reveal the sum of it all in her next life.
