“Shakira Grooves to Cumbia at the Grand Opening of Barranquilla’s Newest Mega School”

On September 16, Shakira made an appearance at the Nuevo Bosque megaschool at approximately 1:30 pm. The singer was accompanied by Jaime Pumarejo Heins, the mayor of Barranquilla, and other city officials for the school’s grand opening. The educational institution was constructed through a partnership between the Mayor’s Office of Barranquilla and the Pies Descalzos foundation.

As she arrived at the educational facility, the artist hailing from Barranquilla felt a great sense of joy. The reason for her elation was the fact that this school would bring hope to over 1,000 children residing in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Atlántico’s capital city. This project aims to bridge the gap caused by scarcity and uplift the standard of living for the underprivileged.

As the cumbia and Barranquilla Carnival music echoed through the air, the singer-songwriter swayed to the beat and reveled in the special moment along with the students and teacher who were there to witness it. The ceremony marked the official opening of an educational center, and the beloved hometown hero had the honor of cutting the red ribbon. Shakira spent time with the students and even toured the facilities of the center, which was made possible by an investment of almost 14 billion pesos. It’s worth noting that nearly 5 billion pesos came from the star’s foundation dedicated to promoting Latin music.
