A family in Thailand had to witness a heartbreaking scene with their beloved pregnant pet.
Nong Horm, a two-year-old female dog, was discovered dead alongside a 1.2-meter-long king cobra in the front yard of her owner’s home in Pathum Thani, central Thailand, on a recent evening. Prior to her passing, she was in the last month of her pregnancy, expecting around ten puppies.
Heartbreaking photos depict the owner of Nong Horm, 51-year-old Suriyon Chanthakhet, lying next to his beloved pet as it struggles to breathe with bite marks around its mouth. The one-eyed king cobra, one of the most dangerous snakes in the world, died after being bitten by Nong Horm. However, its potent venom was enough to kill the dog within minutes. Suriyon said that on the night of the incident, he heard Nong Horm fighting with something outside, but it was too late to save the dog from the cobra’s venom. Through the captured images, the 51-year-old owner lay next to his struggling pet and whispered his last words: “My dear dog, what just happened to you? Why did this tragic accident happen to you? I’m sorry for letting you die while still pregnant.”
According to Suriyon, he has been blaming himself ever since for not being able to save Nong Horm and her unborn puppies. “Nong Horm was the best pet dog that our family ever had. She was very loyal and even risked her life for us. Our beautiful dog was killed while protecting my family from a venomous snake. It’s heartbreaking. I almost cry every time I think about the pain she had to endure.” Their family then took the snake’s body outside while Nong Horm was buried in the backyard. It’s not the first time a dog has been praised for fighting a snake.
In November of last year, another dog passed away after being bitten by a venomous snake while protecting its owner’s child. The dog’s owner, Sunil Krushna Samantray, informed the police that the animal was chained up outside their home at the time of the tragedy.
