Shakira: The Unbeatable Powerhouse of Music and the Embodiment of Latin Brilliance

As a part of Billboard’s Mujeres Latinas en la Música feature, it’s worth noting that Shakira has achieved incredible success in the past year. She has managed to claim top spots on the Billboard Latin charts with four of her songs and has even broken 14 Guinness World Records. Additionally, she was honored with a special exhibit at the Grammy Museum, showcasing her impressive career thus far.

In addition to her impressive musical accomplishments, Shakira has also inspired a movement of female empowerment. Despite facing personal challenges in recent years, the Colombian superstar has used her experiences to create a comeback in Spanish-language music and has encouraged others to embrace their vulnerabilities. Her latest success began in April 2022 with the release of “Te Felicito,” a collaboration with Rauw Alejandro that reached No. 1 on both the Latin Airplay and Latin Pop Airplay charts. This was followed by “Monotonía,” a touching bachata featuring Ozuna that spent six weeks at the top of the Latin Airplay chart. With these achievements, Shakira has added to her already impressive list of milestones in the industry.

In January, Shakira concluded her trilogy with a powerful collaboration with Argentine DJ Bizarrap called “Shakira: BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53”. In this song, she introduced her new motto that emphasizes the strength of women, stating that they no longer cry but instead, they cash in. This track earned her the top spot on H๏t Latin Songs chart for the first time since 2016’s “Chantaje” with Maluma. Moreover, it has broken 14 Guinness World Records, including most played Latin song on Spotify in 24 hours (14.4 million) and most viewed video on YouTube in 24 hours (63 million). Shakira expressed her surprise on social media, stating that what started as her personal catharsis and relief ended up topping the charts worldwide at the age of 45 and in Spanish language.

“I am inspired by the countless women who refuse to let others make them feel small. My heart goes out to them,” she expressed before surprising everyone with her latest collaboration “TQG” alongside Karol G. The fiery breakup anthem marked a historic moment for both Colombian artists, as it claimed the top spot on the H๏t Latin Songs chart and also secured their first No. 1 rankings on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts.
